Asha Bhosle’s daughter, Varsha commits suicide

The daughter of legendary singer, Asha Bhosle, has committed suicide at her residence this morning in Mumbai.

Varsha Bhosle, 50, shot herself in the head with a licensed weapon at her Prabhu Kunj house. She had previously worked as a playback singer in Hindi and Marathi movies and appeared in concerts with her mother. She also worked for The Sunday Observer (India) between 1994 and 1998 and at Rediff between 1997 and 2003. Varsha was divorced from freelance sports writer Hemant Kenkre.

Reports say that the deceased has previously attempted suicide. In 2008, she was admitted to Mumbai’s Jaslok hospital after a drug overdose.

Asha Bhosle is currently in Singapore attending the MIFTA awards (Marathi Culture awards).
