The ‘Zanjeer’ remake made news almost from the moment it was perceived. What with Ram Charan making his Indian cinema debut and Priyanka Chopra as leading lady, nothing could havebeen better than having Arjun Rampal render the role of the villain, Sher Khan. However, much to the disappointment of many, Rampal is no longer going to be playing the part.

Apoorva Lakhia, director of the remake of the 1973 original, spoke to IANS and confirmed the development, “Arjun Rampal is not doing the film. He had some date issues so he could not do the film”.

When asked about the news that others, such as Sanjay Dutt, had been offered the role prior to Rampal’s signing on the dotted line, Lakhia gave clarification, “It’s all media speculation. We never considered anyone else other than Arjun for this role. We have not yet decided who will be replacing Arjun in the film. Talks are on”.

It remains to be seen who replaces Rampal in a role originally rendered by Pran.
