Arjun Rampal on ‘Daddy’: “Any film is a gamble or risk”

With the trailer for the film finally out, seeing Arjun Rampal as famous underworld don-turned-politician Arun Gawli in the upcoming ‘Daddy’, has got audiences extremely excited about the biopic. Although the film’s subject is rather sensitive based on a real person, Rampal isn’t too worried about it being seen as a negative thing.

“Any film is a gamble or risk. You don’t know what film is what. Like ‘Neerja’ 92016) is a a biopic on an air hostess. Who would have thought that it will work? Every film is a risk as the idea or story might sound interesting but it can either go right or wrong,” Hindustan Times reported the actor-turned-producer expressing.

Rampal has been faced with many criticisms stating how a film on such a character could be sending the wrong message. With this, Rampal stated, “Ashim Ahluwalia (director) wanted to say something strong and poignant through ‘Daddy’. It is not siding with anybody, it is not about glamourising someone but showing the realism of that world and bringing it out to people. ”

He went on to add, “He (Gawli) has so many layers in life and they are so intriguing. It’s not that we are making a propaganda film about him… The audience needs to make an opinion about him.”

The film was in fact shown to Gawli and his family. Talking about how well the received it, Ranpal revealed, “When he (Arun Gawli) was out on parole he saw the film and he really liked it. It’s a hard-hitting film so he was like ‘zyada hogaya’ (too much). He is happy and even the family is happy. They have seen the reaction to the trailer and they have more faith in the project.”

The film is set to hit the big screens on 21st July.
