Arjun Rampal bags Sher Khan’s role in ‘Zanjeer’ remake

There couldn’t be more furore surrounding a movie than there is currently in the remake of ‘Zanjeer’. Chiranjeevi’s son Ram Charan is to play the role rendered by Amitabh Bachchan in the original and Priyanka Chopra has been announced as the leading lady. The even hotter news now is that none other than Arjun Rampal will be seen as Sher Khan in the remake.

Speakingat a press conference for a music festival, the Hindustan Times reports theactor’s excitement, “It is a cameo kind of a part, OK. I have like 10 or 12 days of work in the film. In that it is Pran saab’s part and I thought it was a wonderful part. I’ll try to do it to the best of my ability”. The original ‘Zanjeer’ (1973) had legendary actor Pran enacting the role and Rampal will step into his shoes for a second time, following his performance as Jasjit in ‘Don – The Chase Begins’ (2006) which was a remake of 1978’s ‘Don’.

When asked a little more about the intricacies of the role, Rampal said, “Don’t ask me what it’s going to be because I really don’t know, but it is going to be something special. I want to do something special for Pran saab because I really loved that role when I saw it as a kid”. Rampal’s career mirrors Pran’s somewhat what with him being appreciated in bad-guy roles just as much as family-oriented ones.

Rampal is currently filming for Madhur Bhandarkar’s ‘Heroine’ in which he stars opposite Kareena Kapoor for the second time after ‘We Are Family’ (2010). The actor will also be seen in Prakash Jha’s ‘Chakravyuh’ which is also at filming stage.
