Arjun Kapoor on joining the ‘Girl Rising’ campaign

Arjun Kapoor is perhaps one of the most apt actors to join the global campaign titled ‘Girl Rising’. The actor recently spoke about the female influences he’s enjoyed in his life.

“Growing up in an environment full of women, I’ve realised the importance of women in my life. I would be nowhere if I didn’t have the correct women in my life, [women] who are empowered with education, [whom] society allowed to breathe and become the people they are,” said Kapoor, according to Hindustan Times.

Kapoor’s film ‘Ki & Ka’ (2016) challenged the conventional gender roles in society. He continues, “Education basic necessity hai, sabka haq hai (everyone has a right to education). Who said that men deserve it and women need to work hard for it? It has been going on for years without being questioned, and change has to start from the youth today. Women are not allowed to make choices — choices are made for them. It’s rooted in our patriarchal society. It bothers me. Meri zindagi ke faisle koi aur kaise kar sakta hai (How can someone else make the decisions of my life)? Everyone should be an independent human being”.

Kapoor was last seen in ‘Mubarakan’ earlier this year and was appreciated in the double role.
