Arjun-Janhvi give sibling goals on ‘Koffee with Karan 6’

It is a pair that so many of us wouldn’t have placed together on the ‘Koffee with Karan’ couch in a million years. This is because there’s really no expectation of these two half-siblings coming together for such a thing. However, experiences and life have changed that and this brought Arjun Kapoor together with his half-sister Janhvi Kapoor on the show this evening.

Immediately, host Karan Johar delves into the elephant in the room, so to speak. After the passing of Sridevi, these Kapoors have connected like they’ve never done so before and it would have been absolutely unthinkable not to talk about the events that led up to that. As Johar spoke to them both individually, Janhvi is very sincere in saying that it has definitely been a bittersweet year for her but that she’s seen her family coming together as one as a blessing and a comfort. Arjun, on the other hand, was very frank in saying that as he and his sister Anshula has been through the life-changing experience of losing their mother, they knew that Janhvi and her sister Khushi would need someone there as a source of strength. He also said that what he did at that moment was want to be the best son he could to his father and that’s exactly what his mother would have wanted so that’s what he did.

After this rather touching moment in which Janhvi was perhaps finding it hard hiding her pain, Johar moved on to other topics like how the dynamics were in the family now. The duo admitted to having a WhatsApp group called “Papa’s kids” along with Khushi and Anshula, as well as their father. Arjun then explained how much he values his father (Boney Kapoor) making an effort to be a father at his age and really trying to do so.

Johar quizzed Janhvi on whether she is dating Ishaan Khatter, with whom she debuted in in ‘Dhadak’ earlier this year. She denied this but Arjun mentioned that Khatter always seem to be around. The host also asked Arjun whether he’s in a relationship and he says he’s not single but then also explains that he hasn’t told his family about such a thing as yet because it means a lot to him that they are all there now and that he has that sense of security. He said there will come a right time to open up to them about that side of his life but that the last few months have been very life-changing so he’s conscious somewhat of that.

The rapid fire round was an interesting one as expected, with Arjun saying he’d like his next film to be with Anushka Sharma over Deepika Padukone. He also said that he sees Kareena Kapoor Khan as more of a friend than Katrina Kaif. He also said that the first thing he’d say if he woke up from a coma would be “Where’s Anshula?” He also said Ranveer Singh would be interesting to share a room with. Janhvi, on the other hand, made a great debut in this round. She made Arjun burst out with laughter when she was asked to write the Instagram bio of Khatter’s and answered “I live Beyond the Clouds”. She also said she’d rather have Priyanka Chopra as her mentor over Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. However, she topped all her answers when asked by Johar to name one film that she’s embarrassed to have never seen to which she replied “I’m watching Kuch Kuch Hota Hai tomorrow”. Johar laughed uncontrollably at this.

The standing buzzer round was hilarious with Arjun protesting that the questions that were being asked were in Janhvi’s favour. However, what was perhaps the funniest moment was when both were asked to call a member of the Kapoor family, put them on speaker phone and asked them to say “Hi Karan, what’s up?” Janhvi got through to Anshula but when she was put on speaker, Arjun threatened her not to say that. Janhvi went on trying to convince her to say it but she didn’t. In the mean time, Arjun called his father and completed the task successfully.

Overall, it’s got to be said that these two Kapoors are somewhat intriguing individually and were therefore a great watch together. You can feel their sincerity and their bond even though this is all still new to them. Johar bringing them together on one stage will not only give the audiences a chance to see how well they gel but also understand that they care for one another deeply and that this has been a saving grace for them both, despite the sadness that made it happen.
