‘Dear Zindagi’ (2016) has done well for Ali Zafar and also not so well. Directed by Gauri Shinde, the good part was that she made sure that none of Zafar’s scenes were cut as a result of the ongoing political pressure. The bad part, was that the songs which he sang in the film, were dubbed by Arijit Singh in the off screen soundtrack.
According to SKJ Bollywood News, Shinde was not partied to this decision, but sources close to the team, say that it was a decision by Sony Music, and others state it was down to Karan Johar. The songs ‘Tu Hi Hai’ and ‘Tareefon Se’ were dubbed by Arijit Singh.
A source said, “After the trouble Karan went through in Ae Dil Hai Mushkil because of Fawad Khan’s presence in the cast, Karan Johar wanted no trouble again.”
The source continued, “However she had no say in the dubbing of Ali’s songs by Arijit Singh.”
Similarly the same occurred to Arijit Singh, in ‘Sultan’ (2016) where the song ‘Jag Ghoomiya’ was dubbed by Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, and then, Singh replied, “Nowadays no singer takes permission before dubbing another singer’s songs. Gone are the days of such courteous showmanship.”
