Apna Bazaar sets date for Sky launch

The UK’s first Asian shopping channel is set to go live in September, it has been confirmed to Biz Asia today.

Named Apna Bazaar and dubbed as the Asian “QVC”, the channel will run infomercials and teleshopping slots offering viewers a range of items to shop from. As well as household goods, Apna Bazaar will also be slotting shows for travel, religious items and the latest in inventions.

The channel will broadcast from its base in Manchester. As well as broadcasting on Sky Digital, shoppers will be able to purchase products online via the channel’s official website, which is currently under maintenance for a re-launch later in the year.

Initially Apna Bazaar will run recorded shows, which then will be followed by phase two of the launch. The second phase comes into action early next year and will see the introduction of live shows.

Apna Bazaar launches on Sky Digital on Monday 19th September 2005.
