As the battle of roles continues, the new pair of actors to join the war are Ranbir Kapoor and Ranveer Singh.
Though Kapoor has officially signed on for the lead role in Anurag Kashyap’s ‘Bombay Velvet’, it has recently been reported how Kashyap had very nearly signed on Singh for the role. A source revealed, how apparently Kashyap felt (from currently working with him in their upcoming film ‘Lootera’), Singh fit the role perfectly. Until Kapoor approached him (Kashyap), who showed his enthusiasm of wanting to work with him and in the film.
A source told Bollywood Hungama, “It was a tough call for Anurag to make. Both Ranveer and Ranbir are fine actors and both were very keen to star in his film…Since he is fond of both the actors and was finding it difficult to pick one, Anurag asked his producers to intervene and take the casting decision. The producers went with Ranbir because they felt that not only did he suit the role to the ‘T’ but also was a bigger and more bankable star. ‘Bombay Velvet’is Anurag’s most expensive film and will be shot of a mammoth scale. So obviously it made more sense for him to go with a star actor like Ranbir.”
Kashyap was having difficulty with the lead role from the very beginning, with Shah Rukh Khan, Aamir Khan and John Abraham in mind- though not coming to a conclusion- until he had crossed paths with Singh and Kapoor.
Though Kashyap denies the reports, the source also mentioned how Singh has no hard feelings against the incident, and is in high hopes of working with Kashyap in the future.
Due to go on floors by the end of this year,’Bombay Velvet’ will also star Anushka Sharma.
