Anurag Kashyap: “Bombay Velvet fiasco my fault”

'Bombay Velvet' starring Ranbir & Anushka

With Anurag Kashyap’s next ‘Raman Raghav 2.0’ set for its premiere at the Cannes Film Festival this weekend, the filmmaker has blamed himself for the dismal outcome to his last ‘Bombay Velvet’.

Talking to Deccan Chronicle, Kashyap said, When a film fails, it is 100 per cent the director۪s fault. If Bombay Velvet didn۪t work, it is entirely my fault. The director is the only one who has the power to say no. A lot of the places where I should۪ve taken a stand, I didn۪t. So the mistake is mine. When a film is good, it۪s everybody۪s contribution.۝

What happens is, when you are making a film, you start work on it and midway the process kind of changes. You forget why in the first place you wanted to make the film. A lot of the times we need to put our foot down and say no, this doesn۪t go with the film۪. We give into a lot of pressure, we go on the back foot,۝ he added.

‘Bombay Velvet’ was touted as Kashyap’s biggest ever movie after small budget movies like ‘Black Friday’, ‘Dev D’ and ‘Gulaal’.

Known for making small-budget independent films like Black Friday, Dev D and Gulaal, Kashyap۪s Bombay Velvet was pitched as his biggest movie ever.
