Anisha Padukone on sister Deepika’s journey

Deepika Padukone is the top earning actress in the country according to Forbes India, ranking #4 overall. Reflecting on her journey, sister Anisha Padukone spoke to Forbes India on this occassion.

“Deepika and I were in the same school until I was in 4th grade. She always loved to participate in school plays, dancing and performing for the Teacher’s Day, the usual things kids do in school.”, she said, “One incident our mother tells us about is that during one of her performances in school she imitated the principal, and that too in a convent school, where things like these are not easily accepted. Surprisingly, everyone loved her act because it was so good”

Padukone revealed the family’s reaction to Deepika signing her debut ‘Om Shanti Om’ (2007), sharing that, “When she (Deepika) informed us that Farah Khan had promised her a movie with SRK, we were a bit skeptical and asked her not to stop looking for more options. But when we realized she has actually signed the contract, all of us were very happy.”

Now, however, she knows which scripts work best for her, and doesn’t need the family’s guidance, Padukone said, “So we don’t get involved in these things and most of the time she doesn’t even tell us what the story is.”

Deepika Padukone will produce and star in Meghna Gulzar’s upcoming film, which is still in its early stages.
