Anil Kapoor tells Kareena Kapoor Khan: “You took a lot of money from me”

Anil Kapoor recently joined Kareena Kapoor Khan on her ‘What Women Want’ chat show to talk about pay disparity between female and male actors. Although this has long been a talking point in Bollywood and Hollywood, there is still some way to go until pay equality exists.

Kapoor Khan asked the ‘Fanney Khan’ star if male actors in B-town should follow in similar footsteps to those in Hollywood, where they only accept a film if their female counterpart receives the same. Kapoor replied, “You toh took a lot of money from me,” which left Bebo stumped momentarily who then responded back saying, “We are breaking barriers, we are doing that. But like you said, there are still some people…”

The ‘Pagalpanti’ (2019) actor’s comment was in reference to when negotiations were being held for ‘Veere Di Wedding’ (2018), which he co-produced, “Yaar, yeh toh hero se zyada paise maang rahi hai.’ Maine bola, “De do (“She is demanding more money than the hero.” I said, “Give it to her”).” They all called me up also, I said, “Done.” They were calling me when the negotiations were on. I said, “Bebo jo maangegi, de do (“Give Kareena what she wants”).”

He further added, “There are so many films where the leading actress has taken more money and maine khushi khushi kiya (“I did the films happily”).”

On the workfront, both Kapoor and the ‘Good Newwz’ (2020) star will be working together once more in Karan Johar’s upcoming film ‘Takht’.
