Rumours of a sequel to the classic ‘Mr India’ (1987) have been doing the rounds for a while. However nothing has ever been confirmed as to if the project will actually happen. Actor Anil Kapoor who stated in the film, has expressed though that there will be a ‘Mr India 2’ in his lifetime.

News recently had it that the makers were planning on making the sequel next year, however this was unconfirmed too. Pinkvilla reported Kapoor stating, “We don’t know if it will next year, but it will definitely come before we bid adieu to the world.”

Taking about the first film, Kapoor looked back and told the media about what he went through whilst making the film at that time, and how all the attention was on his co-stars Sridevi, “I was an established actor but it was Mr India, Tezaab (1988), Eeshwar (1989), Ram Lakhan (1989), Karma (1986) and Parinda 1989) which made me the numero uno star. During the ‘Kaate Nahin Katate’ song shoot, I was treated like a junior artiste rather than the film’s leading man who had to beg, plead, threaten, sulk and fight for one close-up, which would be taken at 4 am. The trio was obsessed with her (Sridevi) and she was a pro, filming the rain song when she was burning with fever.”

He went onto talk about how his iconic character is still very well knwon today. “I am called Lakhan, Jhakaas, Ae ji O ji, Munna and now Majnu bhai, but even today, I’m introduced as Mr India. Like all Indians, my character, Arun Verma, was humble, approachable, down-to-earth and will do anything for his country, and that forged a bond with the audience. There’s a lot of me in Arun too,” Kapoor expressed.
