Today was the day that the first ever Bollywood star became torch-bearer for the Olympics. Amitabh Bachchan carried the torch in the London Borough of Southwark this morning and has called it an “indescribable” experience which brought him much honour.

Bachchan tweeted moments afterwards, “Faced many situations where enormity of crowd and its response was unbelievable. But today with Olympic torch it was indescribable”.

The 69-year-old wrote on his blog, “This is an incredible honour, humbling and so full of pride and emotion… A moment to be hopefully remembered by the grandchildren”. It is thought he was invited by the London Games Chairman, Sebastian Coe, for the event.

Many fans and admirers lined the streets to witness Bachchan’s part of the relay. The torch continued its journey throughout London during the course of the day, including passing through Buckingham Palace and Downing Street.
