Amir Khan breaches coronavirus rules for second time

Boxer Amir Khan has breached Covid-19 regulations after meeting up-close a senior Pakistani politician, who tested positive for the virus just 48 hours later.

Khan shook hands and posed for pictures with Usman Buzdar, Chief Minister of Punjab province, during a high-profile boxing event that he helped organise in the country, reports Mail Online.

But instead of adhering to rules for those who come into contact with anyone testing positive, Khan instead set off to Dubai, where he met up with footballer Cristiano Ronaldo at an awards ceremony on Sunday.

Current rules state that Khan should have been maintaining a two-metre distance and wearing a face mask wherever possible. Those exhibiting symptoms are required to get a test. He had been in Pakistan for a series of high-profile boxing bouts, which took place at the Governor’s House in Lahore. He was also accompanied by his wife, Faryal Makhdoom.

And then just a week after the Chief Minister tested positive, Khan headed off to Dubai for the Globe Soccer Awards. He posted a picture on Instagram in which he and Ronaldo are warmly clutching hands with the footballer placing his arm around him.

The couple’s trip to Pakistan and Dubai over Christmas and New Year was already controversial after Makhdoom was criticised for travelling abroad despite experiencing Covid-19 symptoms. She had told her followers on Instagram about having lost her sense of taste and smell – one of the symptoms of coronavirus. Anyone displaying symptoms should not fly.
