Amar Butala leaves Salman Khan Films for Fox Star Studios

Film executive Amar Butala has become the new chief acquisition officer for Fox Star Studios. Butala previously developed and produced projects for Balaji Motion Pictures, Disney UTV and Salman Khan Films. At Fox Star Studios, Pinkvilla reports that Butala will be responsible to drive the Content Acquisition and Alliance Agenda.

Chief executive officer of Fox Star Studios, Vijay Singh said, “Amar is an experienced film executive having been associated with many successful films over the years and has built strong relationships in the industry. Fox Star has had a dream run at the Box Office in the last 2 years and has emerged as the No. 2 Studio across Hollywood and Bollywood. Our commitment to creative development and building our in-house talent teams has helped build capacity and competencies. This coupled with our on-going successful partnerships with creative production houses including Dharma Productions, Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment, Rajkumar Hirani Films & Vinod Chopra Films have enabled us to become the preferred Studio in Bollywood. We are now looking to scale up further and Amar will play an important role in achieving this growth agenda.”

Butala was the chief operating officer at Salman Khan Films and successfully handled the instruction of a co-producer on ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’ (2015), one of Hindi cinema’s highest grossing films. Whilst at Disney UTV, Butala developed, innovatively supervised and produced feature films in addition to managing talent acquisition for them. Butala’s other successful films including ‘Slumdog Millionaire’ (2008), ‘Love Sex and Dhokha’ (2010), ‘Once Upon a Time in Mumbaai’ (2010) and ‘Filmistaan’ (2012).
