Amaal Mallik on uncle Anu Malik’s sexual allegations: “Don’t consider him family”
Amaal Malik has candidly addressed the longstanding sexual harassment allegations levelled against his uncle, Anu Malik, during the MeToo movement in 2018.
In a recent interview, Amaal clarified his stance, stating that he has never considered Anu Malik family, which is why he chose not to comment on the matter at the time. “I didn’t speak up or support Anu Malik when those accusations surfaced. It wasn’t my concern, as I don’t see him as family. I was quite embarrassed when it happened. We’ve never had any real relationship. But when multiple individuals come forward, it’s hard to dismiss it—there must be some truth. Five people wouldn’t speak out without reason.”
Reflecting on the impact of the movement, Amaal shared a moment with his father, “My dad once asked if I thought I’d be dragged into it too. I said, absolutely not. I could never be the kind of person to solicit physical favours in exchange for professional opportunities. Every female colleague I’ve worked with has always felt safe around me.”

On the current state of his relationship with Anu Malik, he added, “I’m civil when I see him publicly, but I’m no longer on good terms with him. I have no ties with his family and haven’t interacted with them in years. I don’t attend their events. They were invited to Armaan’s wedding and they did attend—but for me, it’s more of a professional rivalry than anything else.”
