Former journalist Allegra Stratton has been confirmed as Boris Johnsons’s first press secretary, who will lead daily briefings on behalf of the UK government.
Stratton, who previously worked with the BBC and ITN, recently became Director of Strategic Communications for Rishi Sunak after he was promoted to the chancellor role.
She is expected to become a household name with daily updates from the government, in a style to that of the White House, which are fronted by Kayleigh McEnany.
The idea was first mooted by Johnson after the success of the daily briefings during the height of the coronavirus pandemic in the UK. The news conferences were watched between two and five million viewers each night.
Stratton is expected to begin daily briefings in November.
