Alia Bhatt reveals why KJo advised her against ‘Kapoor & Sons’

The relationship between Alia Bhatt and Karan Johar is unique one. Bhatt has, at various occasions, acknowledged Johar’s importance in her life, having addressed him as ‘Papa’ at award ceremonies. Whilst their good friendship is apparent, it’s also common knowledge that Bhatt reaches out to Johar whenever she is in doubt, personally or professionally.

Bhatt said in an interview with Filmfare, “My mood at that time, the script and the director… help me decide a film.” Since her debut film, the majority of Bhatt’s films have been with Karan Johar’s production house. Although Bhatt shares that she can never say no to Johar, if a film isn’t clicking, she’d rather not do it.

Talking about Johar, Bhatt said, “Karan asked me not to do Kapoor & Sons. I said, ‘No! I want to do it’. He said, ‘You don’t have enough part in it’. Karan will offer you a film and then he’ll also ask you not to do it in a protective way. Later, he said, ‘I’m sorry, I was wrong, you were right in doing it.”

‘Kapoor & Sons’ (2016), directed by Shakun Batra, was a romantic drama film starring Rishi Kapoor, Fawad Khan and Sidharth Malhotra. The film was critically and commercially appreciated by the audiences and won several awards at various award ceremonies.
