Akshay Kumar’s ‘Gold’ not a biopic

It has been clarified that Akshay Kumar’s film ‘Gold’ is not a biopic based on hockey player Balbir Singh Senior. The producers of the film have stated the film is a fictional story set against the real backdrop of India’s sporting success following partition.

Reports have been floating that the film which focuses on India’s Olympic medal win in hockey is a sports biopic. However Ritesh Sidhwani and Farhan Akthar have stated this is untrue. “We have set it in real events so people confuse it with a biopic. It talks about the era in which we achieved Independence and what happened with sports, primarily hockey at that time. It is not about a particular character and Akshay is not even playing hockey. He plays the manager,” said Sidhwani as reported in Times of India.

The producer also went onto add how impressed he was with Kumar’s dedication as it’s the first time they’ve worked together. “He is the most professional actor. He is dedicated and focused about his work. He comes on the sets and is there till you don’t finish the shoot. It is not that he will go and sit in his vanity van or have meetings or talk to people”, said the producer. He went onto add it wouldn’t be the last time they’d be working with Kumar.

The film is releasing in August 2018.
