Akshay Kumar turns presenter for Marathi venture

Having worked with writer, singer, actor and lyricist Swanand Kirkire before, news has it, Akshay Kumar will be taking part in his forthcoming Marathi drama titled ‘Chumbak’ as a presenter.

According to Mumbai Mirror the actor will be a part of the film’s promotions where he will present the film to different audiences. “It was a coincidence that I co-wrote ‘Padman’ (2018) with R Balki (Akshay had played the lead and also produced the film). The producer of our Marathi film, Naren Kumar, was the executive producer on another Akshay starrer, ‘Jolly LLB’ (2017) , and happened to show our film to him. Akshay loved it. As soon as I finished ‘Padman’, I started shooting for ‘Chumbak’ and had no idea we would be collaborating again so soon. It’s great that Akshay is lending his name to the film,” Kirkire was reported expressing.

When asked why he had decided to take on a Bollywood actor, the film maker expressed, “The film gets validation. Marathi cinema is content based so Hindi film actors feel proud to associate with them.”

There had been rumours that Kumar would be seen in front on the camera, however, Kirkire explained, “No, he is not acting in the film. It’s the journey of a child and a 45-year-old man played by me. We are introducing two new actors — Sahil Jadhav and Sangram Desai.”
