They spent over two years making the film, with whispers from the media doing the rounds as to what’s in store, Rani Mukherjee’s forth coming project ‘Aiyya’ is finally making appearances on the screens. Though before all of this, the project all stemmed from a short film.

When filmmaker Anurag Kashyap first saw the short film, he prompted writer and director Sachin Kundalkar to convert it into a full fledge feature film, “I used to do a play S-S-Sarla with Sonali Kulkarni and she called me once to show a short film by Sachin Kundalkar and I met him there for the first time. I liked it so much that I said this should be made into a whole feature film,” Hindustan Times reports Kashyap stating

Kashyap went onto state how after developing the film, Kundalkar always wanted Mukherjee to play the lead role, and ever since they got her on board she has been very much involved, “This film has taken a long time to be made with a lot of nurturing, Sachin and Rani have spent two-and-a-half years on the film and the rest of the team.”

Set to release on 12th October, ‘Aiyya’ will see newcomer Prithviraj Sukumaran.
