Aishwarya becomes first Indian women to hoist Indian flag

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan has become the first Indian woman to hoist the Indian flag, along with daughter Aaradhya Bachchan at the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne.

The Indian Express reports that mother and daughter also sang the India national anthem, “Jana Gana Mana” on the celebrations of India’s 70th Independence Day.

Aishwarya thanked Melbourne for the occasion. She was cited in the publication saying, “Thank you so much Melbourne, thank you everyone for giving us such a moment of pride and happiness with so much love and warmth. Celebrating our 70th Independence Day will forever be such a beautiful memory for me and my dearest Aaradhya.”

The event was also attended by Karan Johar, Nitesh Tiwari, Shobu Yarlagadda, Shilpa Shetty, Sushant Singh Rajput, Rajkummar Rao and others.
