Adnan Sami likely to get Indian citizenship soon

Popular singer Adnan Sami, who has been in India since 2001, is soon likely to be availed Indian citizenship under Section 6 of the Indian Citizenship Act, 1955.

According to Mumbai Mirror, Sami’s request for Indian citizenship has been processed amid the massive brawls held by Shiv Sena opposing the concert of Ghazal maestro Ghulam Ali and in another incident, ink attack on Sudheendra Kulkarni just few hours ahead of a book launch of former Pakistan foreign minister Khurshid Kasuri.

The Bollywood singer has made the request for Indian citizenship citing that he has already renounced his Pakistani citizenship and has made India his home. His request has been backed by the Attorney General of India. The Ministry of Home Affairs is also thinking over granting him citizenship by naturalization in view of his distinguished service to the cause of art.

The Lahore-born singer first came to India on 13th March 2001 with a one-year visitor’s visa availed to him by the Indian high commission in Islamabad.
