Aditya Roy Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor have been confirmed as the leading pair in the much talked about ‘Aashiqui 2’. Shaad Randhawa will play the second male lead in the classic love triangle.
Even though the Mahesh Bhatt film is touted as a sequel to the hit 1990 musical hit starring Rahul Roy and Anu Aggarwal, this version is rumoured to be a remake of 90s hit ‘Awaargi’. A 1992 film directed by Bhatt, which starred Anil Kapoor, Meenakshi Sheshadri and Govinda.
Kapoor, the daughter of infamous baddie Shakti Kapoor, has starred in films like ‘Teen Patti’ and Yash Raj Films’ ‘Luv Ka The End’ but both have proved box office duds. She is now hoping that the Bhatts can change her career.
Mukesh Bhatt said, “We found Shraddha very talented. All three actors have extremely challenging dramatic roles. It’s not a film about only looking good, singing and dancing. These are performance-oriented parts, and we’re convinced that Aashiqui 2 would do for Shraddha, Aditya and Shaad what the first Aashiqui did for Rahul, Anu and Deepak Tajori.”
Bhatt added, “We are resisting the temptation of carrying over Nadeem-Shravan’s chartbusters from Aashiqui into Aashiqui 2. Jeet Ganguly will make original songs in Aashiqui 2. While Aashiqui had 11 songs, Aashiqui 2 will have only seven.”
