Aditya Chopra keen to acquire Hindi dubbing rights of Tamil-Telugu film ‘Mahanati’

One cannot say that they have seen producer-director Aditya Chopra even a handful of times. He intentionally stays out of the limelight and is rarely seen with wife Rani Mukerji in public either, but that all changes when Chopra wants to watch a movie in the theatres, just like the average movie-goer, and along with all the movie-goers.

Deccan Chronicle reports a close friend of Chopra’s saying, “Adi shuns all offers of private screenings as he feels he cannot get a proper feel of the audience’s reaction unless he is a part of the public. He slips in quietly for a regular show, makes hand-written notes during the screening, and slips out before he is recognised.”

Chopra recently watched the Tamil-Telugu success ‘Mahanati’ (2018) and is eager to acquire the dubbing rights, “He has expressed an interest in acquiring the dubbing rights to the film. Adi feels that the film should reach audiences pan-India. He would’ve loved to remake it in Hindi, but it is a film that renders well in the Tamil-Telugu cultural context,” a source said.

Co-producer of ‘Mahanati’ Priyanka Dutt, is also in aggreance with the idea. She said, “We are definitely looking at a pan-India audience for Mahanati. And dubbing the film in Hindi is definitely one of our options. We are exploring various possibilities.”

‘Mahanati’ stars Keerthy Suresh in a leading role.
