‘Adipurush’ banned in Nepal cities over controversial dialogues
Om Raut’s latest release ‘Adipurush’ continues to face backlash from cinemagoers after its dialogues sparked controversy.
Two cities in Nepal have decided to ban the mythological film until an “objectionable” line is deleted.
The film is based on Ramayana, in which the characters are named Raghav, Lankesh and Janaki. However, the mayors of Kathmandu and Pokhara have pulled up a line in which Janaki is branded “India’s daughter”.
Balendra Shah, mayor of Kathmandu said, “No Indian film will be allowed to be screened in the Kathmandu municipality area until this objectionable part is removed from the film.”

Meanwhile, the film’s co-writer Manoj Muntashir Shukla said “I wrote more than 4,000 lines of dialogue for Adipurush, but some sentiments were hurt by five lines.”
Shree Byankatesh Entertainment, the film’s distributor in Nepal said it had postponed the film’s screening in several other cities over “security concerns”.
