Aanand L Rai: “Zero is a story that I wanted to tell”

It was big news from the get go, and as soon as audiences caught a glimpse of Shah Rukh Khan as a dwarf in his forthcoming release ‘Zero’, their eyes have been peeled to all the other promos that followed. However, it’s Aanand L Rai who has stepped out of the norm with this film, and he feels it was the time to take a new direction with his film making.

“I like to hear people say Zero is not my kind of film. Once you start making the same kind of films, it’s a kind of red alert. Once you limit yourself, you will never want to come out of your comfort zone,” Asian Age reports Rai explaining.

He went on to add, “Having said that, I still believe ‘Zero’ is a story that I wanted to tell. I still believe that it’s definitely an extension of me. I haven’t changed, but I have grown as a filmmaker.”

The film also stars Anushka Sharma and Katrina Kaif. Talking of working with Khan, Rai was all in praise of his working style, “Nothing has changed in terms of working style, all thanks to Khan saab. He gives you such a free hand and the best thing is that he believes in his director and he allowed me to fly.”

“He always says you are a filmmaker, you should not manage it, you should make it. He has got such clarity that he is nearly a filmmaker,” he added.

Set to release on 21st December, Sharma will be seen playing a disabled person where Kaif will essay the role of an actress.
