Aamir Khan’s comment on 2015 AIB roast re-emerges amid Ranveer Allahbadia controversy

Amid the ongoing controversy surrounding Ranveer Allahbadia on Samay Raina’s popular YouTube show ‘India’s Got Latent’, comments made by Aamir Khan in 2015 about the AIB (All India Bakchod) roast have resurfaced.

The AIB roast was a groundbreaking event in India, introducing a comedy format that was already popular in the West. However, the show faced significant backlash, with many viewers criticizing the jokes and organizing protests against the group.

Among the critics was Aamir Khan, who deemed the roast “unfunny.” At the Youth for Governance 2015 event, Aamir shared his thoughts, saying, “When Karan (Johar) and Arjun (Kapoor) told me about the roast, I felt it was a very violent act. I completely support freedom of speech, but violence isn’t always physical. It can be emotional or verbal. When you insult someone, you are perpetuating violence,” he stated.

He further explained, “Everyone has the right to express their views. But for me, it wasn’t funny. I’m not a child who’ll laugh at such insults. I’ve grown past that age. I told Karan and Arjun, who are my friends, that I didn’t find it funny at all.”

Aamir then added, “If you want to impress me, try making me laugh without insulting anyone. That’s when I’ll enjoy it. I’m not just talking about AIB, but about Arjun, Karan, and the other actors at the event. As a creative person, I believe it’s my responsibility to find the good in people.”

While Aamir made it clear that he didn’t endorse the roast, he also acknowledged that he wasn’t sure whether the group had broken any laws. “I don’t believe in lynching them for it,” he said. “If I don’t like something you’ve done, I’ll express my disapproval, and that’s where it ends. Who am I to tell you how to behave?”

Meanwhile, Allahbadia has issued a public apology, sharing a video on his X account.
