Aamir Khan will reportedly play Rakesh Sharma in the biopic of Sharma and his journey in becoming the first Indian man in space.
Film producer Siddharth Roy Kapur approached Khan for the film with a source close the project saying, “Sid had approached Aamir with the script of his last film and this time too he went straight to him. The 2018 film will be made under his newly-launched banner RK Films (Roy Kapur Films). It will be directed by Mahesh Mathai.”
Sharma started his career as Indian Air Force pilot before being appointed as squadron leader in 1984. On 20th September, 1982, he was chosen as a cosmonaut and travelled to space as part of a joint programme between the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and the Soviet Intercosmos space program.
The title of the biopic is yet to be confirmed. However, recent reports suggest that the film will be titled ‘Salute.’ The film will jointly be produced by Kapur and Khan and expected to release in 2018, reports The Indian Express.
