Aamir Khan planning a sequel to ‘Lagaan’?

Lagaan

Aamir Khan’s ‘Lagaan’ had broken all records in 2001, receiving much commercial and critical success worldwide, also being nominated in the ‘Best Foreign Language Film’ categoryfor that year’s Oscars. After fourteen years, rumor mills are on overdrive with news of Khan planning a sequel to the blockbuster.

To Mid-Day, a source said, “Aamir is planning a sequel and has also met a few people for collaboration. The sequel, like the original film, will be based on the land tax (lagan) system, but with a contemporary backdrop to it. The script is still being developed and pre-production work is yet to start” Another source associated with the project confirmed, saying, “It is likely that another director might helm ‘Lagaan 2’. But Prachi Desai has already been finalized to play Aamir’s leading lady. Her role, though. will be relatively shorter than Gracy’s in the original.”

Although, a spokesperson from Khan’s production house has denied Khan’s involvement in any project other than ‘Dangal’, stating, “He is busy shooting for ‘Dangal’, which will continue till mid-2016. He will not sign any film till then.”

‘Lagaan’ had starred Khan and Gracy Singh, and was directed by Ashutosh Gowariker.
