Aadar Jain on nepotism: “I feel bad when people says things without seeing my work”

New kid on the block Aadar Jain and the latest Kapoor family member to join the Bollywood industry, spoke about his thoughts on nepotism at the recent event launch of his debut film ‘Qaidi Band’ hosted by his cousin Ranbir Kapoor.

In an interview cited in The India Express, Jain who is also the grandson of the late Raj Kapoor, says he is well aware of what has been said on nepotism and feels bad that comments can be made before his work has even been seen. “As a newcomer, who has always dreamt of becoming an actor, it was a huge deal for me to be introduced like that. I read the comments after the launch about nepotism. When you work so hard, give it all, an entire year of blood, sweat and hard work and then you read about these comments, you feel bad. I am human after all.”

Jain who didn’t want to discuss whether he is talented or not, added, “I don’t want to say anything. Yes, I feel bad when people says things without seeing my work. I want my work to speak for itself. That’s the only thing I am here for.”

Sharing his views on nepotism, Jain says that even coming from a strong family lineage of actors, in the end it all boils down to talent. “The industry believes in talent. It doesn’t matter what background you are from, you might be an outsider or from a film family, what matters is your talent. I had to audition for the film. “I might come from a film family but that didn’t guarantee me anything. At the end of the day I don’t think a writer, director or producer will invest in a person who does not have the talent.”

However he does understand that coming from a family background such as his, there is a higher expectation to do well.

Jain reveals why he chose to do ‘Qaidi Band’ as it wasn’t the typical film a debut actor, “I had not thought about it as an unconventional film and that’s why I did it. This is a kind of film that I would like to watch. It is refreshing, new and a story not told before.”

In order to relate to his character in the film, Jain’s point of reference were films and TV shows such as, ‘Shawshak Redemption’ and ‘Prison Break’. “I didn’t know what actually happens inside a prison. That was very interesting for me especially the under-trial situation. That fascinated me. Those are the reasons why I wanted to do the film.”

‘Qaidi Band’ directed by Habib Faisal for Yash Raj Films, is a story about seven under-trials, who form a musical band in prison. Jain will be seen with another newcomer, Anya Singh and the film is slated to release on the 25th August.
