A Plus UK & UK 44 acquire rights for PSL 2017

The rights for the lucrative Pakistan Super League 2016 have been snapped up A Plus and UK 44, BizAsiaLive.com can reveal.

In a major blow to Prime TV, the rights holder of last year’s inauguration tournament, the series will now air on A Plus and UK 44 starting in February. What will come as a further shock is that Prime TV had been awarded the UK rights for the Pakistan Super League for three years. It now seems that a breakdown in talks between Prime TV and the the league has resulted in the abrupt termination of contract.

This will be a huge coup for Evolution Media Network, who will be selling airtime for A Plus, which launches on Monday on Sky. No doubt, the broadcaster will utilise the cricket property to garner eyeballs to its new channel. Furthermore, it will strengthen the interest in UK 44, touted as the UK’s first local South Asian news channel.

Evolution Media Network had a rocky ride recently after losing marketing and sales rights for Hum TV Europe. However coming back in the market with the Pakistan Super League, will shut-down its detractors. Evolution Media Network also plans to expand its channel portfolio with UK 44, A Plus and a number of other new projects later this year. Evolution Media Network also holds the sales and marketing rights for the Pakistan Super League for the Middle East region.

A Plus UK and UK 44 will both share the Pakistan Super League 2017 schedule. It starts on 9th February 2017 in Dubai.
