‘Dostana 2’ to have a fresh new cast?

Ten years since Tarun Mansukhani’s comedy, ‘Dostana,’ and even now, the film is still fresh in the minds of the audience.

Talks of a sequel have been on for years, but according to reports, Karan Johar has finally given his nod to a story. “The script is currently being developed and should be locked by the end of the month. The film is expected to go on the floors early next year,” a source close to the development revealed.

‘Dostana’ had John Abraham and Abhishek Bachchan playing Kunal, a fashion photographer, and Sameer, a male nurse, respectively. The two posed as a couple in order to rent an apartment with Neha (Priyanka Chopra), who will not have straight men as flatmates, reports India Today. However, things get complicated when they both fall in love with Neha, but must maintain their pretence of being gay.

According to the report, none of the original cast members will find a place in the sequel. “Karan wants to cast two new actors in the film,” the source said, adding, “There will be a girl to complete the triangle and she will be a Bollywood A-lister but it won’t be Priyanka reprising her role.”

Perhaps ‘Dostana 2’ might just go the way of the ‘Dhoom’ franchise. The first installment, featuring Abraham and Esha Deol, was a huge money-spinner at the box office. However, the makers chose to cast Hrithik Roshan, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Bipasha Basu in ‘Dhoom 2’ (2006). Despite a new cast, the film was an even bigger success. ‘Dhoom 3’ (2013), which starred Aamir Khan and Katrina Kaif, raked in over Rs 500 crore worldwide.
