BizAsia Birthday Love: R Madhavan’s 5 roles in various careers

He has always been known for his choice of roles whether it’s the main lead or a supporting role, he manages to get it right every time. He won over the audiences with his happy go lucky charm in the romantic drama ‘Rehnaa Hai Tere Dil Mein’ (2001) where he completely changes himself for the girl of his dreams. In ‘3 Idiots’ (2009) his performance as Farhan Qureshi got him a nomination for the Filmfare, Best Supporting Actor Award.

1st June marks the birthday of the ever talented R Madhavan and on this occasion, BizAsiaLive.com has picked five roles that saw Madhavan in various different careers.

Singer in ‘Dil Vil Pyar Vyar’ (2002)

Madhavan played the role of a singer named Krish who struggles to make it big in the world of music. He is constantly shadowed by his wife’s stardom and people see him as a man who lives off his wife’s money which angers him all the more.

For him music has always been a part of his life and he has taken this passion of his more seriously than his wife ever did. Krish is so passionate about his music that he wants to be given work because of his talent not because he is the husband of a famous artist. Madhavan gave it his all in this role showing the struggles, the frustration of one man who tries yet doesn’t get the same result as others.

A cook in ‘Ramji Londonwaley’ (2005)

This film saw Madhavan play the role of a simpleton name Ramji who loves to cook. In his village he is known for his cooking and for the fact he is always willing to help people around him. He require a lot of money for his sisters wedding which he feels can only be achieved if he goes abroad. He is promised a job and goes to London only to find out he no longer has a job or a place to stay. However destiny helps him and not only does he find shelter he also manages to find work in his favourite department, cooking.

Madhavan did a great job as a chef, in one scene his character can be seen telling another chef how to cook and later he ends up taking matters into his own hands.

Flight Lieutenant in ‘Rang De Basanti’ (2006)

Madhavan was the cool guy in this film whose friends looked up to him. The love of his life adored her man and his mother was ever so proud of her son. Ajay Singh Rathod (Madhavan) was very patriotic and loved his country more than his own life. His personality was such that he would speak up if he felt something wasn’t right even if it meant going against his friends. He believed that rather than complaining about something it is best to get up and do something about it. It is because of him, his occupation and his words that made his friends think twice about their meaning in life.

It was a role that left an impression on everyone and was definitely one of Madhavan’s best.

Newspaper reporter ‘Guru’ (2007)

It was a small role but one that Madhavan shined in. His character Shyam had many sides to him as he was a romantic at heart when it came to love but he was ruthless as anything in his profession. Fear meant nothing to him and he would go over and beyond for his work, he even warned his opponents that he would never back down.

Madhavan delivered his dialogues with conviction and his acting style had a certain confidence which made Shyam stand out. His sarcasm in his scenes with Abhishek Bachchan was superb, overall it was a memorable role.

Boxing Coach in ‘Saala Kadoos’ (2016)

Strict, a grouch who hardly smiles and a no nonsense sort of guy that is Adi (Madhavan). Having been a boxer at one point of his life he understands what it takes to reach the top therefore he cannot stand people who waste his time. When he spots a girl who has talent he pushes her to take up the sport because he can see potential in her but she sees the whole thing as a waste of time.

Seeing Madhavan in this sort of role was different but in a good way. His portrayal of a sports coach was spot on, the way he constantly pushes this girl to realise she has what it takes to be at the top was brilliant. Madhavan got a lot of appreciation for this role of his.

The team at BizAsiaLive.com wishes R Madhavan a very happy birthday.
