Ali Zafar denies sexual harrassment allegations by Meesha Shafi
Earlier today, popular Pakistani singer Meesha Shafi put up a statement on her Twitter accusing actor-singer Ali Zafar of sexually harassing her. The latter has since put up his own statement on the micro-blogging site, denying the claims made.
Sharing this because I believe that by speaking out about my own experience of sexual harassment, I will break the culture of silence that permeates through our society. It is not easy to speak out.. but it is harder to stay silent. My conscience will not allow it anymore #MeToo pic.twitter.com/iwex7e1NLZ

Interestingly, since the revelations by Shafi there have been comments shared on Twitter which suggest that Shafi is not the only person who has had “incidents” with Zafar. Popular Pakistani journalist Atika Rehman said Shafi’s bravery made her friend feel somewhat relieved.
A friend who works in the industry just messaged me saying “Thank god someone finally spoke up about it” — seems @AliZafarsays predatory behaviour is known to many – well done @itsmeeshashafi

It remains to be seen where these developments lead but it seems Shafi is standing by her personal experience against the actor.
