Om Puri’s last film to be released soon

The news of his death shocked the world, as his international stardom was known to all. However it seems Om Puri isn’t finished with the world, as the release of his last venture is all set to grace the big screens. Having shot for Algerian filmmaker Karim Traidia’s ‘Gandhi: The Conspiracy’ two years ago, audiences will be able to see the late actor on the big screen one last time.

Having been shot in Sri Lanka, the film takes a different turn of the life and death of Mahatma Gandhi. Wanting to do something different, Mumbai Mirror reports producer Lakshmi Iyer explaining, “The idea was to make the oft-told story interesting so we zeroed in on a conspiracy theory which nobody had heard of and wove it into a suspense thriller.”

Talking about Puri’s role, she went on to explain, “Om Puri played a South Indian cop who wants to save Gandhi’s life while there are others who think the nation is bigger than Gandhi.”

The film will star a number of actor from all over the world, including American actor Stephen Lang who spoke candidly about his rapport with the late actor. “He was with us in Dubai when we released a teaser. He was such a wonderful person, he’d cook for us occasionally and he believed in this kind of cinema. He was an old-school actor who read the script, liked the subject a lot and gave his nod in two days. It was a blessing for us to have him on the sets. How I wish he were still around,” the actor expressed.

What’s interesting is one of Puri’s earlier roles was a part of Richard Attenborough’s film ‘Gandhi’ (1982). With this next release, it seems Puri will prove he will live in the heart of cinema forever.
