Fox pledges to keep Sky News independent

21st Century Fox has vowed to keep Sky News independent as it continues to battle with UK regulators in its bid to takeover Sky.

The Rupert Murdoch company said it would commit to maintain Sky News for another five years and it would be handled by a fully independent board.

Fox has been in talks to buy the remainder 61% of Sky for a number of months. Earlier, the Competitions and Markets Authority (CMA) found that if the deal went through, it would give the Murdoch family too much power over news providers in the UK. Ofcom has since said that a Fox-Sky merger was not in the public interest on grounds of media plurality.

The Authority will make a final decision with a report submitted to Matthew Hancock, the Secretary of State, by 1st May.
