Box Office: Ranveer Singh’s ’83’ release date rescheduled

One of Ranveer Singh’s next projects will be ’83’, based on the 1983 Cricket World Cup. Originally slated to release on the 19th April 2019, this has now changed to 30th August 2019.

Helmed by Kabir Khan, the biopic is of the legendary cricketer Kapil Dev, who Singh will be essaying. The official Twitter page of ’83’ confirmed, “Mark your calendar! ’83 will be releasing on August 30, 2019. ’83 stars @RanveerOfficial. Directed by @kabirkhankk. @RelianceEnt @FuhsePhantom.”

Khan had shared earlier why ’83’ was important for him and why Singh was the perfect match for the role. Talking to PinkVilla, Singh said, “As a young schoolboy when I watched India win the 1983 Cricket World Cup I had no idea that from that day onwards Cricket in India will change forever. As a filmmaker, for me, the journey to that win, filled with raw energy and sheer passion of that young Indian team, is probably one of the most exciting stories I have worked on. And it’s great to have Ranveer come on board to play Kapil Dev, as honestly, I could see no one else for the role, ever since I started finalising the script.”

Singh who was also asked how he felt about playing Dev, said, “I was born at the time when cricket was big time. When Kabir Sahab had come to me and said that there will be a film on 83, I was like finally. And when he was narrating it to me, I was like woooh. It is not a story just about cricket but a human story.”
