Shahid Kapoor on ‘Padmavati’: “This is not the time to be angry”

Speaking as a guest at the inauguration of the International Film Festival of India (IFFI), Shahid Kapoor spoke about his views of the current situation of ‘Padmavati’, which has been postponed for release following protests by various Rajput and political groups.

Reported in the Hindustan Times, Kapoor said he remains optimistic about the film releasing, and believes by being angry will not resolve anything. “Sometimes films of this nature…. it gets a bit complicated. I will choose to be optimistic till the due course is done. This is not the time to be angry, not the time to lose your cool. There are enough people doing that. So I would choose to say that I believe in the process.”

“I am sure Padmavati will come out. It is a film we are very very proud of. I am sure once people see the film, all this will be forgotten,” added Kapoor.

Asked what he thought about the threats against Deepika Padukone, Kapoor strongly condemned this saying it was “shameful”.

“Of course, any kind of conversation which is violent is not in good taste. I think it was absolutely uncalled for. I hope we will live up to the expectation of the people. I don’t want to make any comments specific to a group,” said the ‘Rangoon’ (2017) actor.

Security has been tightened for Padukone and Sanjay Leela Bhansali amid the recent threats against them to be beheaded.
