Katrina Kaif’s Pakistani character in ‘Tiger Zinda Hai’ to change nationality?

It seems like the tensions of the Indo-Pak relationship will once again spill into movies with the release of Salman Khan’s ‘Tiger Zinda Hai’. Following the hostilities that were created last year, rumours are abound that the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) will request changes in the Khan release.

After the Uri attack in September 2016, Karan Johar came under attack from the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) for his film ‘Ae Dil Hai Mushkil’ (2016) which not only starred Pakistani actors but also led to a change in nationality for Anushka Sharma’s Pakistani character. According to India Today, it seems history will repeat itself again as Katrina Kaif’s Pakistani character in ‘Tiger Zinda Hai’ may not be cleared by the CBFC, and may require a change in nationality too.

There is an unofficial ban on Indo-Pak relationships in films which is resulting in such changes to take place in cinema and story-telling. The question of artistic freedom will no doubt be raised again should this change go ahead.
