Rani Mukerji receives Outstanding Contribution to Cinema Award from Mauritius

Rani Mukerji has been honoured by Mauritius for her contribution to cinema. The actress attended the ceremony where she was felicitated with the award by the Prime Minister of Mauritius.

Mukerji, who was last seen on the big screen in ‘Mardaani’ (2014), received the Outstanding Contribution to Cinema Award by the Mauritian government for her critically acclaimed performances during the Mauritius Cinema Week. The ceremony is part of the country’s 50 years celebrations of independence from British rule.

The talented actress expressed her gratitude  to receive the award. “I am humbled, thankful and proud that Mauritius has given me such honour and love with this Outstanding Contribution to Cinema Award. This festival brings some really good cinema and also provides a rare chance for French and Indian cinema to be celebrated together”, she said in her speech, as reported by Deccan Chronicle.

She also went onto add her experiences and love for the country following the shooting of some of her most memorable films. “Many of my films like ‘Bichhoo’, ‘Hello Brother’ and ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hain’ have been shot here. I love the pristine natural scenery and vibrant culture of Mauritius. I am thankful that those of Indian origin have given me such affection”.

Mukerji also touched upon the shared troubles the countries had and sees cinema as a way to continue to build relations between India and Mauritius. “We share a common history of colonialism and struggle for independence. In the years to come, I hope we also find common ground in our arts and cinema”, she finished.
