Friendship day 2017: 5 best on-screen friendships since 2012

Friendship day is upon us for another year. Bollywood, as many will agree, has always portrayed friendship on-screen in different situations. Some friendships from yesteryear films are remembered even today but what about those modern takes? BizAsiaLive.com looks back at five of the best friendships in Bollywood films which have released in the last five years.

Murphy & Jhilmil – ‘Barfi!’ (2012)
This is perhaps one of the most beautiful friendships Bollywood has been witness to on the big screen. Ranbir Kapoor as Murphy and Priyanka Chopra as Jhilmil were innocence personified. With all their imperfections, they developed a pretty special friendship which touched everyone’s hearts. We think that this one is timeless and will remain a point of remembrance for many years to come.

Bunny & Naina – ‘Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani’ (2013)
With Ayan Mukerji’s direction, the youthful friendship between Bunny and Naina – and also Avi (Aditya Roy Kapur) and Aditi (Kalki Koechlin) – was one you simply couldn’t not identify with. Kapoor once again shows how easy it is for him to chop and change between different characters. However, his pairing with ex-flame Deepika Padukone in ‘Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani’ was much-talked about because this was the first time they shared the screen post their real-life break-up. And it’s safe to say they seemed uber-comfortable with each other and it showed in the film. Bunny and Naina meet by chance and the former brings the latter out of shell… so much so that she falls in love with him. Kapoor and Padukone’s on-scren chemistry is unmatchable to say the least and added that little sparkle extra to this tale of friendship and love.

Bikram & Bala – ‘Gunday’ (2014)
The on-screen bromance shown by Ranveer Singh as Bikram and Arjun Kapoor as Bala in ‘Gunday’ is one that many will remember. Playing two orphans who come together due to circumstances, the two eventually become each other’s family – taking on life’s obstacles together. It didn’t go unnoticed that these two had a whale of a time shooting for and promoting ‘Gunday’ because of their fondness of each other in real life. This made their on-screen partnership that little more believable even though the film didn’t receive only positive reviews.

Jug & Kaira – ‘Dear Zindagi’ (2016)
Many may not describe the bond that develops between Jug and Kaira in ‘Dear Zindagi’ as being so but we think, although it is unconventional, it definitely exudes friendship. Kaira developed more of an attachment on her side but Jug did become a friend for her even though he might not have felt the same and only treated her as his client. Alia Bhatt and Shah Rukh Khan share a unique chemistry with each in the film and it definitely make for an interesting watch.

Laxman & Gu – ‘Tubelight’ (2017)
Although ‘Tubelight’ wasn’t praised by many critics, the tale of friendship between Salman Khan’s character Laxman and Matin Rey Tangu’s character Gu is one that takes the story forward at many points, it seems. The unlikely friendship comes about when Laxman tries to indicate to the rest of the village that Indians and Chinese can be friends. He thinks this is a good way of maybe bringing his brother Bharat back from the Indo-China war. Khan and Tangu share some touching moments within the story.

No doubt in the months and years to come, Bollywood will show much more about the beautiful bond that is friendship. BizAsiaLive.com would like to wish all our readers a very Happy Friendship Day.
