Raksha Bandhan 2017: 5 films that show supportive siblings

Raksha Bandhan has arrived once again to celebrate the affectionate bond between a brother and sister. Over the years Bollywood films have changed a lot but still the love between a brother and sister hasn’t been forgotten. This relationship has been explored many a times in films.

To celebrate Raksha Bandhan BizAsiaLive.com will look at five films in which the siblings can be seen supporting one another.

Ramaiya Vastavaiya ’ (2013)

Sonu Sood’s character Raghuveer had various roles to play in his life. Although he was Sona’s (Shruti Haasan) brother, after the death of their mother he had to bring her up as both a mother and father. He loved her as though she was his own daughter and Sona (Haasan) felt she had a fatherly figure in her brother. Raghuveer (Sood) would do whatever it took to protect his sister from the atrocities of the world, so when Sona (Haasan) falls in love with the dashing Ram (Girish Kumar) he puts the lover to the test to see if he is worthy of his sister.

Sood did very well at playing the tough older brother who is sweet in front of his sister but mean when it comes to the boy she loves. Haasan was the simple girl who respected her brother and believed that whatever decision he made for her was right.

Dil Dhadakne Do’ (2015)

Priyanka Chopra and Ranveer Singh were seen like never before in this film. Their scenes together showed what being siblings is really like.

Singh is the laid back Kabir who has a passion for flying but his parents, especially his father wishes that he would take more interest in their family business. His sister on the other hand Ayesha (Chopra) has the business sense and has successfully started her own company. Unfortunately no one seems to care about this achievement of hers and her family would rather see her sit at home and take care of her family. Kabir (Singh) knows exactly how Ayesha (Chopra) feels, he understands that she isn’t happy in her marriage and they often discuss the matter. It is the same with Ayesha (Chopra) as she knows what her brother wants and tries to advise him as best as she can.

Singh and Chopra had many memorable scenes together that were hilarious and other scenes that showed they supported one another without fail.

Dear Zindagi’ (2016)

Kaira’s (Alia Bhatt) dream is to become a director and she knows that she is good but certain situations in her life arise causing her to step back from her dreams. Disturbed by her thoughts she decides she needs to see a Psychologist to help her overcome her past. When attending her sessions with Dr Jehangir Khan/ Jug (Shahrukh Khan) she realises that much of her problems in her life are due to what happened to her in her childhood.

When Kaira (Bhatt) talks about her family the only time her eyes light up are when she talks about her younger brother Kiddo (Rohit Saraf). Saraf is seen only for a small section of the film but his scenes are important.

Kiddo (Saraf) is the only one in their family that verbally expresses his support for Kaira (Bhatt). While their parents and relatives pick faults with Kaira (Bhatt) he supports his sister when no one else does and he isn’t afraid to speak his mind. Likewise Kaira (Bhatt) cares for her brother a lot. There is one scene where the both of them recall the times when Kaira (Bhatt) would read Kiddo (Saraf) a story from his favourite book. It was a nice scene between two siblings.

Sarbjit’ (2016)

A true story that changed the lives of two siblings forever. Aishwarya Rai Bachchan enacted the part of Dalbir Kaur a woman who is trying to prove to the whole world that her brother Sarbjit Singh (Randeep Hooda) is not a terrorist. It took over 20 years of Dalbir Kaur’s (Rai Bachchan) life trying to prove her brother’s innocence. Dalbir Kaur (Rai Bachchan) does anything she can to save her brother and to prove his innocence.

The scenes between Rai Bachchan and Hooda were very emotional at times. There is a scene where Sarbjit (Hooda) is in prison and Dalbir Kaur (Rai Bachchan) has gone to visit him. She is distressed to see him in such a bad condition. He is crying and screaming that he wants to be saved and his sister can do nothing but reassure him that things will be okay. When no one else is willing to help or support Sarbjit (Hooda), Dalbir Kaur (Rai Bachchan) steps up as she feels she has to as it is her younger brother.

Rai Bachchan’s role was powerful and she played her part as Dalbir Kaur convincingly. Hooda’s acting was worthy of appraise too.

Haseena Parkar (2017)

Yet to be released this film has had a lot of attention for the fact it is based on the real life story of the two siblings Dawood Ibrahim and Haseena Parkar. Interestingly the film stars real siblings Shraddha Kapoor and Siddhanth Kapoor.

Since the trailer has been released there has been a lot of excitement to see both Kapoors together in one film and also to see Shraddha try something different in terms of roles.

BizAsiaLive.com would like to wish everyone celebrating a very happy Raksha Bandhan.
