9XM to launch Punjabi music channel in India

9XM has announced it will be launching a Punjabi music channel in the coming weeks in India.

9X Tashan – Yaaran Da, as it will be known, will specialise in folk Punjabi music, Brit-Asian singers and Bollywood Punjabi music videos. The channel will include popular characters from 9XM such as Chote Bade but in Punjabi. 9X Tashan will compete directly with established Punjabi giants like PTC Punjabi, ZEE ETC Punjabi, MH1, Jus Punjabi and Balle Balle.

9X Tashan will join the already hugely popular 9XM brand, which currently leads the India market as the most watched Hindi music channel.

Other details about 9X Tashan remain sketchy but officials are expected to make an announcement about its launch later this month.

9XM was previously available in the UK but closed down due to a number of issues including change of management. Its EPG slot on Sky Digital was subsequently sold to Colors. However, according to insiders, 9XM is planning to relaunch in the UK and talks are ongoing.
