’83’ makers to keep film in cinemas for eight weeks before OTT release

It was being said earlier this week that Kabir Khan directed ’83’, which was the last release of 2021, would be heading for OTT after the Covid 19 surge caused its run to be interrupted post cinema release. However, makers have now said that they would still want to keep the film in cinemas for eight weeks.

It is normal for such films to head to OTT release not long after they have premiered on the big screen. Many expected that this film would be an exception to the eight-week rule but it’s thought that the makers have thought otherwise on this.

The rights for the film at with Netflix so it looks like the film isn’t likely to go digital before February at least.

The film stars Ranveer Singh as Kapil Dev and tells the real-life story of India’s cricket world cup win in 1983.
