25 Years of Kajol & Ajay Devgn: Five songs featuring the couple

In season six of ‘Koffee with Karan’ (2018) there was a segment in the show where the two guests were made to play a game. They had to compete by answering questions and whoever answered the most correct won that segment. One of the guests was asked about their wedding date and it seemed like they were having a little trouble remembering the exact date. After seeing their struggle the second guest who also happens to be their better half, screamed the date that the two had tied the knot.

The guests we are talking about are of course the most loved couple Ajay Devgn and Kajol. On the 24th February this year, it will be 25 years since the two got married.

BizAsiaLive.com will look back at five songs that were picturised on the couple.

‘Pehli Dafa’ from ‘Hulchul’ (1995)

Kumar Sanu and Alka Yagnik sung for the couple in this romantic number. Anu Malik gave the music and hats off to him for the beautiful composition which perfectly matches the vocals of Sanu and Yagnik.

In the film Kajol’s character Sharmili has always liked Deva (Devgn) but whenever she appears before him he always acts cold towards her. Finally the day comes when Deva accepts Sharmili and within this song they express their love for one another.

‘Mujhse Tumse Mohabbat Hai’ from ‘Gundaraj’ (1995)

This is another 90’s classic created by Anu Malik where the lyrics speak about expressing ones feelings before it’s too late. The lyrics written by Zameer Kazmi really expressed the anguish of Ajay (Devgn) who has fallen for Ritu (Kajol) but is unable to tell her how he feels. Kumar Sanu and Sadhana Sargam sang for the actors with playback singers accompanying them in certain segments of the song.

Musically the song had many elements to it with some parts that consisted of a piano and sometimes an electric guitar this made the song even more interesting to listen to.

Watching the song a very young Devgn and Kajol can be seen and it wouldn’t be wrong to say they had great chemistry together.

‘Aashiq Hoon Main’ from ‘Pyaar To Hona Hi Tha’ (1998)

This fun number saw Kajol and Devgn in a way like never before. In the song the audience gets to see Sanjana (Kajol) and Shekhar (Devgn) work together to make Sanjana’s ex jealous. Her ex who is on vacation with his new girlfriend can’t seem to escape Sanjana and Shekhar and that’s what makes it more funny.

Another factor that made this song even more impressive was the way the legendary Asha Bhosle sung for Kajol. There were some notes that required a lot of skill while singing but Bhosle made it seem effortless. Accompanying her was Udit Narayan who sang for Devgn making this song complete.

Kajol and Devgn had worked together in a few films before this one but it seems that for their fans this was and continues to be a favourite even today. Sanjana’s clumsiness and Shekhar’s cool and calm demeanour just seemed to go hand in hand.

‘Yeh Dil Kya Kare’ From ‘Dil Kya Kare’ (1999)

A beautiful melody by Jatin-Lalit that makes the listener want to keep repeating the song again and again. Truly a magical treat for the ears with the vocals of Alka Yagnik and Udit Narayan and the heartfelt lyrics of Anand Bakshi.

Picturised on Kajol, Devgn, Mahima Chaudhry and Chandrachur Singh, this song saw the four characters dealing with their various emotions. They know that certain things are not possible or rather they’re not meant to be but what can they do about their heart that wants what it desires.

‘Tune Mujhe Pehchana Nahin’ from ‘Raju Chacha’ (2000)

It was a simple song which consisted of barely any instruments, mostly a guitar yet it became a well loved favourite of many. How can one forget the way Shaan sung this song, the way he hummed the melody it’s one reason why people love this song even today.

Sat around a campfire Shekhar (Devgn) begins strumming the guitar and then follows some poetry. Shekhar is trying his utmost best to woo Anna (Kajol) but she doesn’t seem to be interested in him at all.

It was a sweet song and perhaps one of the most popular songs from the soundtrack.

The team at BizAsiaLive.com wishes Ajay Devgn and Kajol a happy 25th wedding anniversary!
