21st Century Fox restarts talks about sale to Disney

Media giant, 21st Century Fox has reportedly started talks again with Walt Disney about selling its assets.

The assets would include most of the company’s media arm including UK platform, Sky, Sky TV channels (UK), Star TV Network (India) and Fox’s film studio.

The Financial Times reports that the talks have emerged again after Fox “struggles” to gain full control of Sky for the second time in a decade. The deal has been sitting with the UK’s Competition and Markets Authority.

If the deal goes through with Disney, Fox would be left with just the Fox News Channel, which is no longer available in the UK. It will also retain its sports right.

Apparently, Fox insiders believed the company could not gain the size needed to compete with Amazon, Netflix and other digital competitors, who are funding their own online content rather than traditional television.
