��Kahaani�۪ celebrates 50 days at the box office

Woman power is back in vogue thanks to Vidya Balan�۪s power-packed dual turns in both ��The Dirty Picture�۪ (2011) and ��Kahaani�۪ (2012). BizAsia has learnt that ��Kahaani�۪ recently grossed Rs104 crore worldwide and celebrated 50 days at the box office – nothing short of a stellar achievement in today�۪s recession ridden, male dominated Indian film industry.

A thriller directed and co-produced by Sujoy Ghosh, and featuring Vidya Balan, Parambrata Chatterjee and Nawazuddin Siddiqui in lead roles, ��Kahaani�۪ tells the story of Vidya Bagchi (Balan), a pregnant woman in search of her missing husband in the city of Kolkata during the Durga Puja festivities.

“My intention was to make a film and play with the script beautifully, I never thought about the commercial aspect,” said Sujoy Ghosh in an interview to the Hindustan Times.

Ghosh had earlier directed the box office duds ��Home Delivery�۪ (2005) and ��Aladin�۪ (2009).

Balan who was last seen in the box office smash ��The Dirty Picture�۪, at the end of last year, has now cemented both her critical and commercial viability with ��Kahaani�۪. Her next release is ��Ghanchakkar�۪ in which she re-unites with Emraan Hashmi ��� her co-star in ��The Dirty Picture�۪.
