��Barfi!�۪ takes a bumper opening at ticket windows

This week�۪s release ��Barfi!�۪ has taken a bumper opening at multiplexes in India where it opened this morning.

Producers UTV�۪s strategy of targeting the film at elite multiplex audiences has worked massively in its favour with ��Barfi!�۪ taking the third biggest opening ��of the year at these screens after blockbusters ��Agneepath�۪ and ��Ek Tha Tiger�۪.

According to Box Office India, the film has opened to 85% collections in Mumbai city which is very good for a film of its genre.

The film�۪s success is definitely a positive sign for the way in which Indian cinema is headed, proving that that lead protagonist need not be a larger than life character for a film to work at the ticket windows.

In ��Barfi!�۪ Ranbir Kapoor plays a deaf-mute ��Chaplinesque�۪ character while Priyanka Chopra plays an autistic character and newcomer Ileana D�۪Cruz the film�۪s narrator. The film is directed by Anurag Basu and has music by Pritam.
